About
The Ashland Symphonic Youth Chorus was established to immerse and educate children in the fine arts through the study and performance of choral music. Our goal is to train young voices so that each child many reach his/her highest potential as a musician and performer. We believe that by providing children with a rich and varied range of musical repertoire, both classical and contemporary, our young singers and our concert patrons alike will find the chorus a truly enjoyable experience!
Program
Through the Chorus, talented young vocalists in the north central Ohio area have the opportunity to develop their choral performance technique and expand their virtuosity with other students. With three different choirs encompassing a wide base of skill levels and accomplishments, children are assigned to the various choirs by ability and experience to accommodate their talent and ensure their success. Each meeting is considered a lesson in musicianship training, not just a choral rehearsal!
Choirs Offered:
Prep Choir – In this group, singers are at the beginning level of experience. Choristers learn proper and healthy singing techniques, how to sing together in an ensemble, how to read choral music and will sing songs ranging from classical to contemporary styles. Members of this group start in the 3rd grade and continue through 6th.
Chorale - This group of more advanced singers studies a wide range of music with a focus on vocal technique, blend, and artistry. They learn to sing music from various cultures while performining in multiple parts and occassionally a cappella (without accompaniment). This ensemble also focuses on sight reading and forming an appreciation for fine choral music. Musical literacy is a must in order to perform this complicated and challenging choral literature.
